Wasps Senior Academy call-up for Alfie

A former Nuneaton RFC Mini and Junior player has signed a senior Academy contract with Wasps, commencing on 1st July 2021

Alfie Bell, who started playing in The Nuns U13’s junior team, having not played rugby previously. Alfie quickly took to rugby and in U14’s was selected to attend the Wasps U14 Developing Player Programme (DPP). Alfie continued with the DPP to U15 and into the Wasps Junior Academy, playing games for Wasps U18s while only age 16, effectively playing a year up. Alfie continued playing for Wasps U18’s.

Away from Wasps Alfie continued to develop and captained The Nuns U15 side that season. County representation was also on the Cards for Alfie, being selected to represent North Warwickshire at U15 District level and Warwickshire at U15 and U16’s County Level.

Alfie was also selected for England U18s Training squad, including residential camps, however unfortunately due to CV-19 restrictions, no international fixtures where possible.

Throughout the global Covid pandemic, Alfie continued to train with his Nuns team mates and finished his final season of colts in the spring of 2021.

Alfie’s Wasps senior playing career is already underway, having played against London Irish for Wasps in the A League U23’s.

Commenting on Alfie’s professional signing, Rich Evans, one of Alfie’s former Coaches and Team Managers said “All of Alfie’s coaches and team mates are incredibly proud of him for achieving a professional contract. Alfie continued to train with The Nuns during lock down and he will always have a home with us. Alfie is a great lad and we wish him all the luck in the world. We look forward to seeing him run out for Wasps over the coming seasons."
