We are delighted to announce the appointment of Phil Llewellyn as Director of Rugby, marking an important step in the next phase of our Club Progression Plan.
Phil returns to the club, having previously served as Head Coach between 2012 and 2016, with over 20 years of experience across the game, working at every level from community rugby through to high performance environments.
His career spans roles as a Director of Rugby, Head Coach, coach educator and mentor, as well as senior leadership positions within university sport. This breadth of experience, combined with his proven ability to develop players, coaches and programmes, makes him an outstanding addition to our club.
At the heart of Phil’s approach is a clear philosophy: to challenge, develop and inspire. That mindset aligns strongly with our own ambitions as we continue our journey.
This appointment represents more than just a new role; it is a key milestone in delivering our long-term club strategy. We are committed to building a sustainable, high-performing rugby programme that connects our senior teams, develops our young players, and strengthens our identity both on and off the field.
Phil will play a central role in shaping and delivering that vision. Working closely with our players, coaches, volunteers and wider membership, Phil will focus on:
• Defining a clear club-wide rugby strategy and playing identity
• Building a strong, aligned player pathway from Mini & Junior rugby through to senior rugby
• Developing coaches through consistent standards and support
• Embedding core skills and performance behaviours across all teams
• Driving a positive, inclusive and high-performing culture
• Supporting the senior squad through aligned recruitment and long-term squad development
We believe this is the start of an exciting new chapter. Phil’s leadership, energy and experience will be instrumental as we continue to build a club that our members, players and community can be proud of.

Upon appointment, Phil said:
“I am delighted to be returning to Nuneaton Rugby Club in the role of Director of Rugby. Having spent four years as Head Coach between 2012 and 2016, the club has always been close to my heart. It is wonderful to see players I had the pleasure of coaching now coaching themselves, as well as leading the club as members of the committee.
My focus will be on the future. The key will be to build a club-wide strategy for development, as well as enhance the player, volunteer and member experience. There are a lot of excellent things happening at the club. I want to work to support this further and review, develop and enhance any areas that need improvement.
The committee has set out a very clear plan, and I am excited to get started on delivering this.”
Please join us in welcoming Phil to the club.
