Nuns 7's post-event report

Sunday 21st July saw the Nuns Academy successfully complete their Inaugural Nuns7s Tournament in front of a good crowd on a beautiful day at Liberty way.

Teams from all over the country came to participate including UR7S Rangers and Lion Cub 7s from London and Home counties, Old Halesonians, Old Laurentians and Stunts 7s from the Midlands as well as 2 of our home-grown Nuns Academy sides.

The standard of play was excellent with teams utilising premiership and national level academy players. The day finished with Old Hales winning the Plate Trophy in a bruising encounter against Old Laurentians, and Stunts 7s winning the Cup final in a nail-biting Golden Try against UR7s Rangers after 17-17, following full time.

Aside from the Rugby, the day allowed teams and supporters from across the club to come together as well as raising some funds towards their respective teams. The U11s age group ran a cake stand which raised £135 which they are putting towards a new Gazebo and the U12s group managed the car parking for the event and raised £160 which they are putting towards their tournament. Additionally, support was giving to local charity Paddy’s Plea with 73 swabs taken to find donor matches for Local youngster Paddy who has been diagnosed with severe Aplastic Anaemia and needs a bone-marrow transplant.

All teams that participated stated that they had thoroughly enjoyed their day and that they were keen to come back next year. So we now look ahead to build on the work done to establish the event as we plan to make 2020 Nuns7s even bigger and better.

Thanks goes out to everyone in the club that helped make the event go by so smoothly , which includes Abi and George with the Bar facilities , Beth and Jess for the BBQ, the U11 and U12 age groups for the cake stand and car parking duties, the Academy management for bringing it all together. It was a great example of the club coming together to deliver something that has put the club on the National 7s grid.
