Welcome back to Liberty Way and for our first double header of the season with both senior sides at home today. Hopefully it’s not too wet, having started the season in a mild heat wave things have turned recently.
We extend a welcome to the players and members from Market Harborough and Birmingham Exiles today as well as our supporters who will cheer and support from start to finish.
It has been a tough few opening weeks and we are continuing to strive to improve the output on the pitch. From having a close eye on the performance rather than result we have been improving in a number of areas but still being punished for errors or lapses in concentration that have big effects on the score line. Momentum swings have not gone for us and when we have had opportunities to either score or get ourselves into scoring positions we have missed out and then gone on to concede in bursts. If we can eradicate these blocks from our performance then we will see things definitely progress in the right direction.
The Saxons secured their first win of the season with a resounding 55-5 victory over Trinity Guild last week, which will have been a big boost for the squad. It was a tight affair in the first half with just a 14-0 score but the team really pulled away second half to secure a valuable 5 league points. The previous round, with just 12 men, they still took to the pitch against Edwardians and played an enjoyable game under the ‘Game On’ rules. Edwardians were very game and provided 3 players to make it a 15-a-side game and although the score ended in a 22-5 defeat it was a true reflection of grass roots rugby and more importantly got our lads a game.
Keep up your support, we need it and it does get appreciated.
Have a good afternoon,
Huw
