The biggest day of the season with 4 sides at home.

Well done to all the U15 lads – what an occasion on the Stadium pitch!

WEEKLY ROUND-UP 30/31 MARCH 2019

This week we split the round up into Saturday and Sunday, rather than the usual Mini, Junior & Senior.

Saturday saw the biggest day of the year for The Nuns with 4 sides in action at home. What a day Saturday was! Beautiful sunshine, a packed clubhouse, marquee and stadium terrace. The atmosphere all day was amazing and it brought a tear to the eye of Chairman Bird to see so many people on the Terrace.

The U15’s opened proceedings in a curtain raiser on The Stadium Pitch at 12 noon. Walking off the pitch and beaming with the biggest smiles to be seen all season were Graham Preedy and Matt Beverley, Team Manager and Head Coach respectively. The U15’s set the tone with a convincing win against Barker Butts. Final score Nuns U15’s 32 – 24 Barker Butts u15’s. Well done lads – what an occasion on the Stadium pitch!

2nd XV Saxons - Also took on Broadstreet in an equally physical game on pitch 1 in the sunshine. Broadstreet ultimately look the points in a 15-22 defeat. Game 2 of the day didn’t disappoint, despite the final score.

The Colts took on Old Leams on pitch 2. Speaking after the game, Head Coach JB, said the score didn’t represent the hard work put in by the Colts. Final Score Colts 13 – Old Leams 34.

1st XV – Nuns 1st XV 20 – Broadstreet 15. The team didn’t disappoint with a hard fought and well-deserved victory over local rivals Broadstreet. The lads rose to the challenge set by the club to win on The Stadium Pitch. The club could not have asked for more from you. Thank you! #COYN

Sunday

Minis – all minis trained at home on Sunday, getting in much needed practice ahead of the Nuneaton Mini festival this coming weekend.

RR – Stars of the week are Caden, Louie, Libby, Seb & Reuben.

U7’s –spent Sunday finessing their tag rugby skills ready for next week's festival! Jackie McDevitt praised the squad saying, “All the kids have come so far this year, it's been a joy to watch them improve week by week”.

U8’s – worked on finding space and moving the ball between players in an overlap situation. The session was finished off with an intensive game where the coaches worked on field with positioning and resets.

U9’s – head Coach Pete Walton tells us of a ‘chilling but fulfilling Sunday’ with the focus on ‘passing with confidence and thinking about the space around the team’.

U10’s - trained with an understandably reduced squad (#HappyMotheringSunday) and worked on our handling, off-the-floor pop passing and communication, in the rather chilly conditions.

U11’s - completed a shoe shine/boot polishing fund raiser on Saturday, not giving any player from the 4 games the opportunity to get into the changing rooms without handing over their boots for cleaning. The net was £450 for U11 tour/festival funds.

U11’s divides their team again... allowing our Centurions to train, honing their ball handling and tucking skills whilst our Spartans travelled to Leicester Lions where we played a really competitive game showing some great teamwork and believe it or not. Darlo, Team Manager tells us “I think they might have started to realise the advantages of passing. Leicester Lions coaches were great allowing a good friendly game which resulted in us winning 8 – 6”.

U12’s - like everyone else worked on preparations for the festival next weekend.

Juniors

U14’s – Played South Leicester at home in the first meeting between the 2 clubs at this age group. Nuneaton coming out winners in a great open end to end game with great line speed by the home team in defence being the main factor in the game. South Leicester had dangerous runners out wide but pressure in the midfield defence made sure the supply line was limited. Two number 8 pick ups from Max Exton from short range and interception try from Zac Sutton from his own try line being the stand out moments in the game. Tries from Harvey Bray and captain Thomas Sumner. Plus a Conversion from Matthew Watson making up the 27 - 7 score line.

M&J Chairman, Jason Etherton, spoke with the referee following the game who reported ‘he thoroughly enjoyed referring the game’.

U16’s - had another cry off unfortunately and elected to use the Sunday morning as preparation time for next week’s county cup shield final.
