Nuneaton Rugby are sad to report the passing of Marian Gunn

Only three months after the death of Barry, we are very sad to report the passing of Marian Gunn on 5 July 2022.

Marian was a member at The Nuns for many years. She has watched her sons play through the ranks and has held the post of Club Secretary on two occasions.

She was the first female Officer of the Club when she took on the role of Secretary in 1986/87 - and potentially the first female Officer appointed to a club in the RFU. As well as being Secretary, her dulcet tones could be heard over the sound system commentating on matches at the old Harry Cleaver Ground. Her second spell as Secretary was 1994/96. During her second period she was instrumental in the move from Harry Cleaver to Liberty Way, which doubtless involved many, many hours of hard work. As well as her involvement with the Club, she was a Lecturer in Secretarial Studies at the local college until her retirement.

Despite giving up her Official role with the Club in 1987, Marian never ceased to support the team and was a regular at home games and in the bar on Thursday evenings – Barry always wanting to get away to the bowls club for the “last drink” and Marian insisting on another glass of red before they left.

The picture shows Marian (with her glass of red) supporting the Club’s Ladies’ Ascot Day in 2016. Let’s hope she enjoys a few more glasses of red now she is reunited with Barry.

Our thoughts are with Richard, David and their families at this very difficult time. She will never be forgotten. Details regarding Marian’s funeral will be circulated shortly.
