Nuns U16’s put on a show for local derby…

Traditionally a strong side, like all Leicestershire Clubs, Hinckley came to Liberty Way looking to redress the balance from last time but with depleted numbers on both sides, playing rugby was the order of the day – and boy was that the case!
Whatever was in Sam’s breakfast this morning, he came out firing on all cylinders this week and was soon stepping under the posts for the first try, slotting the extras immediately afterwards.

James F. smashed over in signature style too not long after, again Sam adding the conversion in Jonesy’s absence followed by another Sam try and conversion to stamp an unassailable lead on the play at 26-0 at half-time.

Hinckley defended well and it wasn’t for a poor contest up-front but just couldn’t get much flowing rugby together, several attempts and pressure fizzling out as ball went to ground frustratingly for them. In spite of a few small Hinckley forays up-field, it was the Nuns tackling that also served them well, something that seems to improve weekly these days. Defence was staunch with our new men Morgan and Jarrod always committing and getting stuck in too which was very pleasing to see.

Before long, James B. had “white-line” success and with Sam defying gravity almost on a gorgeous intercept, that added another try & conversion for his hat-trick. Followed by Nick with one of his jinking runs, the flood gates had well and truly opened to take us up to 38-0.

Hinckleys’ resolve and “never-say-die” approach paid dividends to give them a consolation try score but with the conversion missed, Nuneaton’s focus was one-way traffic thereafter with Lewis (x2) outpacing some of their backs and Nick adding another, Nuns were soon well out of sight at the final whistle.

Despite a few missed kicks towards the end, Nuns put in a thoroughly solid performance, one that will serve them well as we look forward to welcoming Bromsgrove this weekend. Well done again lads!

Score summary :

Sam - 3 x T, 5 x C (from 7)
James F - 1 x T
James B. - 1 x T
Nick - 2 x T
Lewis - 2 x T
