The Nuns play 4th placed Luctonians tomorrow in what should be a cracker of a match. Colts home V Leamington, Saxons travel to Lucs.

The Nuns are at home tomorrow for the first time in 2019 and will be looking to carry on their recent good form and make it 3 wins in a row as they welcome 4th placed Luctonians. Last Friday the Nuns gained revenge over Lichfield for a poor, early season result as they came away with a 33-10 victory as well as a four try bonus point. It was another encouraging performance from the team with good control and execution throughout the game. Luctonians went down 32-22 at home to Newport and lost ground on the top 3. When the two sides met back in September it was the Nuns that came out winners in a tight affair scoring a try last play of the game to win 13-12 but they did score two tries to nil. It promises to be another tight game tomorrow.

Nuns league record now stands at 7 wins and 8 defeats with 10 bonus points to sit in 7th on 38 points. Luctonians have 10 wins and 5 defeats also with 10 bonus points to make 50 points. They also have the tightest defence with just 219 points conceded in 15 games.

We also welcome the U14s as the match day Focus team.

The Saxons are away at Luctonians, in what will be a tough game to the league leaders, but they go into the game on the back of an excellent 41-0 win over Birmingham/Solihull 2s last week. That win was an all-round team performance with the forwards dominant at the set piece and all players kept the ball alive across the pitch to score 7 unanswered points.

The Colts have a home game against Leamington at 2:15pm on pitch 2. They will be looking to repeat an earlier success in the season and bounce back from defeat last weekend.

Team news: there is just one change to the pack from the last game with Dave Melville returning, Adie Hall moves to the bench.

The backline remains the same and, on the bench, Rich Johnston replaces Ben Kirby who has University commitments.

Midlands Premier Round Up

Week 15 - 4/5 January 2019

In a Friday floodlight game, the Nuns did get revenge over Lichfield and had a comfortable win. Scunthorpe edged past Derby. Luctonians couldn’t stop Newport (Salop). Bridgnorth beat Syston – but by only 4 points. Broadstreet extended Bournville’s losing run to 8 games. Sheffield just held off the challenge by Burton 36-30. Sandbach don’t win many away games and didn’t win at Doncaster Phoenix.

Week 16 - 12 January 2019

Scunthorpe (league leaders) entertain Doncaster Phoenix (13) - home win. Newport (2) shouldn’t have any trouble beating Syston (14). Bridgnorth (3) have home advantage and should make it count against Broadstreet (5). Nuns (7) have already beaten Luctonians (4) at their place, and I expect them to win again. Sheffield (6) conceded 38 points to Derby (10) in September - they won’t in January and will win. Lichfield (8) go to Sandbach (9) - no joy for the Staffordshire side. Can Bournville (12) end their long losing run? I don’t think so. Burton (11) to win 9-0.
