The Nuns take on Syston at home, 3pm, with the Saxons away to Syston and Colts at Leamington

The Nuns play a second successive home game tomorrow as Leicestershire neighbours Syston visit Liberty Way. It hasn’t been the start that the visitors would have wanted this season with 5 defeats from 5 so far but they did pick up their first points of the season last weekend in a 33-26 defeat at home to Broadstreet. They are the lowest scorers in the league with 45 points too, but the Nuns will take nothing for granted in the game as the last time they two sides met the Nuns were top and Syston bottom but came out winners that day 26-19 back in February 2017.

The Nuns though can take planet of confidence from their last two wins over much fancied opposition and know that or form they can match any side in the league. Last week’s win saw the hosts move up two places in the league to 7th but they will need to start to pick up some more bonus points as they progress.

The Saxons are away to Syston and last weekend they were defeated 41-22 away to Newport. They have won 1 and lost 3 so far but Syston have lost 4 from 4 in the league.

The Colts maintained their strong start to the season with a 22-12 victory over Broadstreet last weekend. They are on the road for the first time this season at Leamington.

Team news: for the first time this season there is a change in front row with Ben Holmes getting a first start of the season at tight head prop. Sam Greening is nursing a couple of niggles and misses out with Ryan Leake coming on to the bench. The rest of the pack remains the same.

Just one change in the backline sees Tom Smitham and Huw Thomas swap places.

Midlands Premier - Preview and Week 4

Week 5 - 29 September

Scunthorpe are the only unbeaten team after their win over beat Lichfield. Newport (Salop) lost their unbeaten record to a Nuns side that took their chances. Bridgnorth had a home win over Burton. Luctonians scored 55 points in their win over Sandbach. Doncaster Phoenix scored no points in a comprehensive win for Sheffield. Broadstreet won a close game away at Syston. Derby lost by just 4 points at Bournville.

Week 6 – 6 October

Scunthorpe (1) make the long trip to Luctonians (4) and in a close game I take the home side to come out on top. Newport (Salop) (2) should beat Sandbach (12) who have only 1 win to their name. Bridgnorth (3) to win at Derby (8). Broadstreet (5) go to Burton (13) and will win. Sheffield (6) visit Lichfield (11) and I fancy the home sides backs will dominate. If the Nuns (7) are to be taken seriously as promotion contenders, they need a bonus point win over bottom of the table Syston (14). Doncaster Phoenix (9) to score some points in their defeat of Bournville (10).
