Nuns make it perfect ten!!

The Nuns made it ten bonus point wins in a row on Saturday as they gained revenge over a Peterborough side that were the last to deny them a win earlier this season. In a one way fixture, the Nuns racked up 104 points without reply to secure the biggest win in the league this season. Sixteen tries were through a Tom Eales hat trick, braces for Martin Wood, Lucas Brindley, Tom Smitham and Travis Bennett-Allcock and one each for George Wallis, Tom Aherne, Todd Bullions, Ryan Preston and James Lloyd. Twelve conversions were successful with Brindley adding 7 and Joe Wilson 5.

The Nuns took the lead in the 3rd minute and never looked back as they were dominant in all aspects of the game over their visitors. This is not to say that a much changed Peterborough just gave up. They tackled and fought for everything all afternoon but couldn’t contain a rampant display.

More scores came on the 10th, 21st, 26th, 31st, 34th and 37th minute with Brindley converting all but one. The Nuns were scoring through the tight and moving the ball wide with some quality and control. The score at half time was 47-0 and the challenge was to try and maintain the pressure and execution with the ball of opportunities.

It took just two minutes to register the first points of the second half and then there was a continual flow of tries in the 49th, 51st, 60th, 66th, 70th, 72nd, 75th and then with the last play Eales secured is hat trick and brought up the 100 with the last try.

The Nuns did all they can do to keep the pressure at the top of the league. With just 4 rounds of games remaining Northampton Old Scouts, Lutterworth and the Nuns are all tied on 79 points with 15 wins each from 18. Market Harborough sit just four points behind on 75 and all sides have games against each other between now and the end of the season which will keep the pressure on each other.

Head Coach Huw Thomas added “That was a performance where we didn’t drop off all game and got the rewards for it. At times this season we haven’t been as ruthless and have left points behind but today I can only think of two missed chances out of all that we created. Credit to Peterborough, they were much changed but some of their lads tackled their hearts out but we had too much. We now have two weeks to prepare for what we be a tough game at Kettering whilst also supporting the Saxons for their game next week. It’s so tight at the top that we can only concentrate on the next game and ourselves.”
