The highs and lows from last weekend for all Nuns sides in action.

"The lads played the best we’ve seen all season"
- Phil Sumner - Team Manager U14's

Minis

Rugger Rats – the rugger rats continued their weekly training and development sessions at home. Stars of the week were: Reception – Eddie & Rorey; Year 1 - Archie and Max. Well done guys!

Team Manager for the Rats, Beeder, successfully qualified as a RFU Level 2 Coach on Sunday, following three gruelling weekends of practice and coaching delivery exercises.

U7 – Half the U7’s travelled to participate in the Lichfield Mini festival. The coaches reported improvements in every game with lots of smiling players at the end of the day.
The remaining U7’s undertook a joint training session with the year 1 rugger rats. Those at home had great fun, even though one of the games looked like the young Nuns were gearing up for the Atherstone Ball Game!

U8’s – The U8’s took a number of players to work with the U9’s, watching contact sessions and exercises as well as joining in with modified exercises. A big U8’s thank you to Wally for leading these sessions. Back in their own training area, the remaining U8’s mainly played in development games concentrating of lines of defence and attack, as well as modified conditions games to promote teamwork, communication and moving the ball around.

U9’s – Had a great day in the sun for rugby, running around on the field of dreams with our little Band of Brothers. The U9’s started to introduce new drills in preparation for next season to get the grey matter whirling. Following a tough session, it was a tough call as there were a few players who showed something extra so well done to our shirt winners Finnley, Jaydn & Joseph, showing determination and understanding through a heavy session. The coaching team were extremely happy with the effort shown by all members of the squad.

U10’s and U12’s - trained at home and like most other squads have started to introduce games and training preparation for next season.

U11’s – split their squad and played Trentham RFC at home and Harbury away. Both teams played some great rugby, winning more games than they lost. Good disciplined play, by all teams, made for an enjoyable morning of rugby at both grounds. Darlo, team manager, commented ‘it was also great to make friends with teams we rarely get to play’. Well done Darlo the diplomat – we here there’s a bit of a crisis that needs sorting in Brussels and Westminster – how are you fixed mate?

Juniors

U13’s – Played another great game of rugby, with a solid win against 12-2 win against Newbold. Claire Harrison, Team Manager, was suitably proud of the lads reporting ‘we are on the up’.

U14’s – Played Lichfield and despite a 17-5 loss, Phil Sumner Team Manager, reported ‘the lads played the best we’ve seen all season.

U15’s – The U13’s thoroughly enjoyed a ‘thrilling game of rugby’ against Kettering. Unfortunately, the result saw The Nuns loose by a converted try 17-24. Graham Preedy, Team Manager, praised the lads for ‘immense pressure in the last 5 minutes’ and ‘being camped in their 5m area’. Graham went onto say he was proud of the whole team and ‘that some defeats feel as good as a win’.

U16’s - unfortunately due to a late cancellation the U16’s didn’t play this weekend. Instead they used the opportunity to train and develop core skills.

Senior

Colts – The Colts took on Hinckley in a local Derby playing across the A5 at Hinckley. In a tough game, the Colts unfortunately lost 7-45.

The Nuns and Saxons both had a rest weekend. The 1st XV have two big home games coming up and we would like to invite all members of the club to support the 1st XV at home in these important end of season games. Let’s get the terrace shouting ‘Come On You Nuns’:

  • 23rd March – Bridgnorth at home
  • 30th March – Broadstreet at home on The Stadium pitch
